The Leroy Holloway Professional Development Grant was provided in the name of a earlier popular Executive Secretary of Oklahoma ASBO. The grant was designed to offer an OkASBO member who has never attended an ASBO International conference the opportunity to do so.

2011 - Ms. Laveda Higgins

The Leroy Holloway Professional Development Grant was provided in the name of a earlier popular Execu-tive Secretary of Oklahoma ASBO. The grant was designed to offer an OkASBO member who has never attended an ASBO International conference the opportunity to do so. This year the grant has been awarded to Laveda Higgins ,who works at Southern Oklahoma Technology Center for 30 years. She was employed as the Assistant Business Manager 25 years ago and the past 5 years as Business Manager and 3 years as Assistant Treasurer.

She attended OKC, Moore and Tishomingo schools where she graduated at Tishomingo High School. She has an Associate Degree from Murray State College. She has two children, a son Brandon, 33 years old and a daughter Arrin, 28 years old. She also has two lovely grandchildren, a granddaughter Pey-ton, 6 years old and a grandson, Boston who is 3 years old and another granddaughter who is due any day.

She obviously loves her job and co-workers, but after 30 years she better. Laveda states, ―Of course it helps to work at the best Technology Center in Oklahoma. Congratulations Laveda!

2010 - Mr. Justin Martin

Justin Martin, Leroy Holloway Grant RecipientThis year the grant has been awarded to Justin Martin, who works at Canadian Valley Technology Center. He is the Assistant Business Manager, a position he has held since since 2007. He has been a member of Oklahoma ASBO since 2007 and is a graduate of the Oklahoma Center for School Business Management at OSU. He has an Associates of Science in Computer Science from Redlands Community College and a Bachelors of Business Administration in Management Information Systems from the University of Central Oklahoma. He began at Canadian Valley Technology Center in 2004 as a Computer Support Technician and then as the Network Administrator for the El Reno Campus.

Justin is excited to attend his first ASBO International Conference in Florida. Congratulate him when you see him!

2009 - Ms. Paulette FranzPaulette Franz, 2009 Leroy Holloway Grant Recipient

Ms. Paulette Franz was selected in 2009 to receive the “Leroy Holloway” Professional Development Grant to attend the ASBO International Conference in Chicago, Illinois, from all of the applicants for this award by the OkASBO Professional Development Committee and recommended to the OkASBO Board for confirmation.

Ms. Franz started at Canadian Valley Technology Center in 1993 as the Payroll/Benefits Clerk. By 1999, the district had grown to the point that they needed to add a Human Resources Dept. and she became the first HR Manager, the position she still holds today. Hher supervisor encouraged her to join OkASBO, which she says has been a very positive experience. Paulette holds a Master's Degree in Human Relations/ Human Resources from the University of Oklahoma.

OCSBM Scholarship Recipients

Any School district that maintains membership or become paid members of OkASBO may apply to OkASBO for a scholarship to attend any seminar offered by the Oklahoma Center for School Business Management.

Oklahoma ASBO has reserved $5000.00 as scholarship awards to its members who desire to attend classes and courses offered by the Oklahoma Center for School Business Management. Recipients are aknowledged individually.

If you received a scholarship last year, you are not eligible for another one but a different OkASBO member at your school district is eligible.

Associate Member ASBO International Scholarships

This scholarship was first introduced in 2007 and continues this year. The number of scholarships awarded depends upon the funds received from the Associate member exhibitors at our Spring Conference.

2011 - Ms. Sara Frye

Ms. Sara Frye, Director of Finance at Bowlegs Public Schools as the recipient of this award. has been a member of Oklahoma ASBO for 5 years and has never attended an ASBO International Conference. Being selected as the recipient to attend the ASBO International Conference will give her the opportunity to strengthen the effective management practices, enhancing decision-making and leadership skills to more efficiently manage district resources resulting in a higher-quality education for stu-dents.

Sara states in her application, ―I will represent my school and association with integrity, enthusiasm, and resolve‖. Those who know her well have stated ,‖she always represents her school with integrity and shows enthusiasm in performing her daily job responsibilities.

Please join me in encouraging Sara in her endeavors. Congratulations!
