History
Established in 1957
The official history of the Association of School Business Officials of Oklahoma is a work in progress. These notes are meant for information purposes until more information is found. (If you have information helpful to completing the history, please email or share it with us.) The OKASBO was formed in 1957 by a few interested school officials whose names are we are trying to determine.
The organization was officially incorporated with the State of Oklahoma on June 30, 1971. The Articles of Incorporation were initiated by Hugh B. Ginn, J. Harry Johnson and Ina Y. Ince, all from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The first Board of Directors were Ted Coover, Tulsa, OK; Clarence Oliver, Broken Arrow, OK; and W. H. Rainwater, Durant , OK. The first Executive Director was Ernest E. Ayres.
In January 22, 1972, the IRS issued a determination letter that recognized our organization as exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code and that letter is still in effect.
On June 11, 2001, The IRS named us a 501(c)(3) organization under the umbrella exemption for ASBO International (GEN 3239), which continues to exempt us from income tax. The added benefit to our contributors is that any amount donated to OKASBO is determined to be a tax-deductible donation.
OKASBO has thrived and grown under the leadership of many fine individuals. Please take time to look through our list of Past Presidents. If you have any OKASBO history to share with us, or details on any of the leaders listed on these pages, please contact us directly via email or utilize our contact form.
