WOW! What a Spring Conference!

It was wonderful to see all those who attended the 2021 Spring Conference.  I had a great time, and I hope you did, too.  Aron Ralston got us started with a tremendous General Session presentation of “Between a Rock and Hard Place!”  Aron took us on the fateful journey that leads to him cutting off his right hand.  He took you on the rollercoaster of emotions, and you felt like you were right there next to him.  If you missed Mr. Ralston, you missed a real treat.  Please don’t despair. We will have him back in the future.

The breakout sessions were very informative and well attended.  There was lots of great interaction between the presenters and the attendees.  Ms. Jennifer Coonce then closed us out with a compelling Ethics presentation.

Casino Night was a blast.  There was lots of food, fun, fellowship, and winning.   I cannot say much more because, as the saying goes, “What happens at Casino Night stays at Casino Night!”  Then the only negative of the conference occurred. Oklahoma’s weather decided it wanted to step up and be center stage.  One of the biggest hailstorms I have ever witnessed POUNDED us.  I know most of the attendees at the conference suffered damage to personal vehicles, school vehicles, or rental vehicles.  Some attendees lost entire windshields, back glass, or sunroofs out of their cars.

We closed out the conference on Thursday with our legislative update and how to communicate in difficult times. Then to add to our excitement, we had a false fire alarm, not once but twice.  Who says you cannot pack that much fun into a conference.

I want to thank our friends from Colorado ASBO for attending.  Bert and Ron are great guys and mean a lot to me.  I want to thank my Board of Directors for the support and encouragement they provided as we decided to put this conference on in person.  Kim Bauer deserves tons of my thanks as well.  She is not new to OKASBO but new to the management side and doing great things.  Lastly, I want to thank each of you who attended.  You are what makes these conferences go!  You are the lifeblood of the organization.  If you did not get to attend, we missed you and hope to see you in September.

Sincerely,

Roger D. Adair, Executive Director
